The ENGLISH KILLS PROJECT will present a new talk and workshop at Sunview Luncheonette on July 14th, Thursday at 7pm. The EKP announces a new collaboration with the Newtown Creek Alliance to fabricate a floating bio-remediation experiment in English Kills. This new project is based on the NCA’s Living Dock in North Henry Street, Greenpoint. An EKP island wetland will test the viability of a hydroponic system with saltmarsh and ribbed mussels to English Kills.

The EKP talk includes time for participants to draw designs for constructed wetlands and public access on design templates. Attendees will learn about the discovery of new mussel colonies and the existence of a natural spring in English Kills located in the Bushwick/East Williamsburg neighborhood. Videos reveal egrets, ducks, geese, killifish, shrimp and mussel ecosystems that exist in the most polluted waterway in New York City.

"NATURE MADE"

A group art exhibition at Gallery Petite Closes Sunday Jan. 31, 2016

Closing reception: 6pm - 9pm

“Perfection, like infinity, is unattainable. Through long history and the passage of time however, the features of the natural world approach this ideal. Time in this case is geologic--six billion years the earth has been under development. Coincidentally, there are roughly six billion people inhabiting the earth at present day. The age of the earth though is a concept understood intellectually but not emotionally. Instead, we can marvel at the results of wind and water on stone over time, the myriad of species birthed through natural selection, the grace and gravitas of forests. The key ingredient for development of the natural world is the slow passage of time. But all forces exist in opposition--does nature push against time? Is time rather than nature our most important fundamental force? We may save that contemplation for another show. Nature Made is a show of works developed by artist in the thrall of nature. These artists present the organic precision of nature, its cyclical behavior, letting it guide their work rather than imposing vision on top of it. The work in this show seeks to highlight the near perfection achieved in the natural world and accentuate its wonder. The artists incorporate natural materials--leaves, sea shells; also, objects depicting the action of forces of nature, wind and weather. Nature is not copied but incorporated and fundamental. The exhibits in this show will enhance your experience of the natural world and our rightful place among its wonders.” – Tyrome Tripoli, curator

"Nature Made" @ Galerie Petit, Nov. 21st. Saturday 6-9pm

"NATURE MADE", opening Saturday, Nov 21st, 6-9pm. thru January 10, 2016, Sunday.

“Just as there is no way to reach infinity, there is no such thing as perfection. But, Nature is pretty damn close. This perfection didn't happen over night. 6 billion years is a substantial chunk of time. Yes it's true, probably most of the 6 billion people that walk the earth at this meet know the earth is very old. But it isn't totally incomprehensible for a mere human to really understand 6 billon years. Nature depends on time. Does time depend on nature? Wait that's another show idea.. This show is about artists that trip out on nature. Work made by artists that can't help but to incorporate nature into their art, one way or another. This exhibition focuses on work made from natural materials like leaves and sea shells, or art made by natural forces like the wind and deterioration. These artists don't mimic nature, instead they tap into its artifacts and cycles.” - Tyrome Tripoli, Curator.

The ENGLISH KILLS PROJECT (EKP) will present a series of public and community oriented events during the Bushwick Open Studios weekend: June 6-7th, Sat-Sun, 11am-6pm @ 447-455 Johnson Ave.

The EKP is named after English Kills, a tributary of Newtown Creek, which is part of its federally designated Superfund site. English Kills is a public waterway, that has no public access. It is also the most polluted tributary of Newton Creek.

The ENGLISH KILLS PROJECT aims to introduce our fellow residents and visitors to English Kills on this empty parking lot at the base of of the creek. It would be the first time to safely see and experience the creek in our Bushwick neighborhood!

The ENGLISH KILLS PROJECT asks "What Do You Want to See In English Kills?"

In this series of events, workshops and performances the EKP demonstrates how artists, art making and citizens can socially engage our community to inform, practice and re-imagine how this distress, contaminated and slowly reviving creek can create a more healthy and abundant habitat for non-human animals, wildlife and humans.
