"NATURE MADE"
A group art exhibition at Gallery Petite Closes Sunday Jan. 31, 2016
Closing reception: 6pm - 9pm
“Perfection, like infinity, is unattainable. Through long history and the passage of time however, the features of the natural world approach this ideal. Time in this case is geologic--six billion years the earth has been under development. Coincidentally, there are roughly six billion people inhabiting the earth at present day. The age of the earth though is a concept understood intellectually but not emotionally. Instead, we can marvel at the results of wind and water on stone over time, the myriad of species birthed through natural selection, the grace and gravitas of forests. The key ingredient for development of the natural world is the slow passage of time. But all forces exist in opposition--does nature push against time? Is time rather than nature our most important fundamental force? We may save that contemplation for another show. Nature Made is a show of works developed by artist in the thrall of nature. These artists present the organic precision of nature, its cyclical behavior, letting it guide their work rather than imposing vision on top of it. The work in this show seeks to highlight the near perfection achieved in the natural world and accentuate its wonder. The artists incorporate natural materials--leaves, sea shells; also, objects depicting the action of forces of nature, wind and weather. Nature is not copied but incorporated and fundamental. The exhibits in this show will enhance your experience of the natural world and our rightful place among its wonders.” – Tyrome Tripoli, curator
