1pm: "Nature is a Historical Category" - a round table discussion with the participants, visitors and invited guests about the state and intersection of art and nature. Moderator: Jaewok Lee
3pm: "What do you want to see in English Kills?" - The English Kills Project and Manuals for Public Spaces (Matej Vakula) collaborate to begin planning with the residents of Bushwick and visitors of BOS to create an open space, public access, man-made wetlands and mussel islands in English Kills in the aim to bio-remediate a Superfund site. Participants have the chance to work with aerial maps and shapes to create their own vision for English Kills. Everyone is invited re-imagine this site to be more sustainable habitat for plants, humans and non-human animals.
Interspersed between the round table discussion and public space planning sessions are bio-remediation workshops conducted by the English Kills Project’s Dr. Sarah Durand and Willis Elkins of the Newtown Creek Alliance. They to share ideas and methods for bio-remediation of Newtown Creek and it tributaries. Much needed information will be on hand about the Superfund process and how Bushwick and East Willamsburg resident can get involved. The North Brooklyn Boat will also have information available.
Throughout the days events Clakula (Ashley Clark and Valuka) bring to life the world of ribbed mussels in an urban environment! Special guest appearance by Edward the Egret.
The English Kills Project will continuously show videos of the state of English Kills during the weekend.
