SUSTAINABLE SYSTEMS class at Parsons: the New School April 14-15

I had the honor of being invited on April 14 and 15th by the ecological artist, activist, writerand educator Oliver Kellhammer to his class called "Sustainable Systems" held every semester at Parsons: the New School. There I talked about the EKP and the experiments done with mussel habitats in English Kills. In addition to their attention I managed to get quite a few designs from the students. For the mussel habitat student design see the "Mussels for Bio-remediation" page on this site. I post the wetlands and open access designs here:

RE-IMAGINE HOW ENGLISH KILLS CAN BE!

Here are the results of the last workshop on 2-28-16 at Lantern Hall. The new template speculates how Newtown Creek may have looked like prior to the arrival of Europeans. (image courtesy of Eric Sanderson's Mannahatta: A Natural History of New York City.)

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO SEE IN ENGLISH KILLS?

Design your vision of how you want to see change in English Kills. Consider the principles I outlined. Think about using organic shapes like those provided to design wetlands, mussel islands, open space or public access. Click on this WDYWTSIEK link to download the attached template pdf to design wetlands and open space at English Kills. Or just grab the image from this website. Send it to me as a jpg (no more that 140dpi or 2500 pixels at the largest dimension) to: hgsanchez3@yahoo.com            I would be happy to post it here!

Here are a few examples from the first EKP public planning event.

Presenting background information for participants of public planning workshop at Kings County Saloon, July, 13, 2015.  Here I am explaining projections of a 19th century map of Newtown Creek, aerial photo of English Kills design examples and examples of design ideas. This is in Collaboration with Manuals for Public Space (Matej Vakula).
