We have a inter-relationship with this ancient estuary, a now walled-in industrial creek. We now contribute to its contamination and we are a part of it and it is a part of us. Complicating this is how NYC makes Bushwick the location and destination of 40 percent of our waste transfer sites. More than any other community in NYC. All this garbage contributes to the accumulation of street runoff into English Kills during storm events. Waste transfer sites negatively impact the health of all of East Williamsburg and Bushwick residents, in particular our youngest and longest standing.
